Rubidium

  • - State of matter at room temperature is a solid.

  • - Number of valence electrons is 1.

  • - Rubidium is a soft metal, silvery-white, and can be stretched out into wire without breaking (ductile).

  • - Density= 1.532 g/cm3.

  • - Good Thermal and electrical conductivity.

  • - Rubidium tarnishes when exposed to air, reacts with water to form corrosive rubidium, and is a flammable gas.

  • - Rubidium is not essential for life.

  • - Important use:
  • - 1= special glasses

  • - 2= photocells

  • - 3= propellant in ion engines in a spacecraft

  • - Research= analyzing amount of rubidium in cerebro spinal fluid. There is less rubidium in Alzheimer's patients.
